Beaters, WTNE and Band Aids have proven themselves to be the cream of the crop. Which other team will fill out that playoff bracket?
Josh Allen leads the JSFL in scoring with 113 points in five games, a 22.6 average.
We have a pretty clear indication that three teams have established themselves as the teams to beat for the trophy in 2024. Two of those teams – the Spread Beaters (534 points) and WTNE (516) – have topped 500 points through the first five weeks of the season. And the third, Bob Garcia’s Band Aids, are one point shy of that mark at 499.
Who are the next top-scoring teams that likely will have the best shot at the fourth and final playoff spot? Jeff’s Packers come in fourth in total scoring so far at 483 points, one better than his brother John’s Rangers (482). There is a sizable gap from there to the next gaggle of hopefuls. Next on the scoring pecking order come the Invaiders at 429 points, the Tirades at 423 points and the Blazing Saddles at 419. The final two teams (the Recliners, 375 points; and the Gerbils, 346 points) have failed to crack the 400-point plateau yet.
And, after early checks of the projected totals for Week 6, it looks like those top four team scoring leaders will just keep adding to them and extending their leads over those giving chase.
Allen, McCaffrey are top scorers: And, it should be no surprise, the top two scoring leaders through the first five weeks of the season are Packers QB Josh Allen and WTNE's RB Christian McCaffrey (right). Allen tops the list with 113 (22.6 points per game) points and McCaffrey clocks in at 110 points (22.0 points a game). Only three other players – Jalen Hurts (Rangers) with 105 points, Tua Tagovailoa (Invaiders) with 102 points, and Anthony Richardson (WTNE) with 101 points – have topped 100 points to far. QB Kirk Cousins (Rangers) checks in with 99 points, and Justin Fields (Beaters) and Brock Purdy (Tirades) both have notched 97 points.
While this is still a small sample size, it is good to know all were potential keepers for the Tirades (that's a joke, folks).

What, no kickers? No defenses? Eh, maybe next week.
Week 6 alerts: The Denver Broncos travel to Arrowhead Stadium Thursday to take on the Chiefs. There is yet one more London game Sunday morning as the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans kick off at 6:30 a.m. West Coast time (at least they let the Jaguars return home). The Giants and Bills have the Sunday night game, and the Cowboys stay on the West Coast to take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night. Only two teams have byes this week -- the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers. Adjust those lineups accordingly.
And, Dodger Dog Bob, I just have one word for you – SWEEP! Too soon? Nah.
Game of the Week
WNTE vs. Rangers, WNTE favored by 10: John’s Rangers were dealt a serious blow in Week 5 with the loss of scoring god, keeper and stud WR Justin Jefferson (and near Tirades’ keeper) for at least a month. Despite the loss of Jefferson and his beloved Steelers, John still has a fighting chance to climb back to .500, but he will have to hang on until Monday to see if he has enough (WNTE’s QB Justin Herbert takes on Dallas). A whole bunch of backups look to be rolling this week and Jordan’s backups appear to be better than John’s. RB Christian McCaffrey has to travel to Cleveland to take on the vaunted Browns’ run defense, and the Buffalo defense (feasting on the New York Giants’ pathetic offense) may decide this one.
John counters with Jalen Hurts at the Jets (and his RB Breece Hall) and Josh Jacobs gets to gash New England at home. We smell an upset brewing here. Take the Rangers and 1.
Best of the Rest
Blazing Saddles vs. Tirades, Tirades favored by 2: Do we just keep picking Blayze for the fun of it? The reverse curse worked its magic in Week 5 as we picked Blayze’s Saddles to win big over the Rangers and John blessed us with a 40-point clobbering of the Saddles. This week, Blayze comes in as the underdog against the Tirades. What the heck, let’s pick ‘em again and watch them flame out. Saddles by 5.
Spread Beaters vs. Recliners, Spread Beaters favored by 22: Matt was dealt a serious injury in Week 5, too, as De’Von Achane of Miami (also a near keeper by the Tirades. Well, he was a near free-agent pickup, but why let facts ruin the running gag?) hurt his knee and is expected to miss several weeks. Who cares. Next man up. Come on down Isiah Pacheco and D’Andre Swift. Matt can roll out the waterboy and might still be favored in this one. He carries the edge at every position except lead RB (Chris has Tony Pollard over Beater Derrick Henry) and tight end... Travis Kelce (yet another near keeper by the Tirades) is listed as questionable with a bum ankle as I write this, over T.J. Hockenson. Even Pringle’s ever-reliable (ha) QB, Justin Fields, is favored over Recliners starter Trevor Lawrence. Chris would need all of the Tirades’ near keepers to have a chance in this one. Take the Spread Beaters and 10.
Packers vs. Invaiders, Pack favored by 13: At the outset, this was the closest projected outcome on the board. The Pack probably wins this one easily, but the Invaiders have had the Pack’s number in recent years. But, not this year. The Pack hold the starting edge at every position except at WR. And, if Ja’Marr Chase and Travis Etienne Jr. (both near keepers by the Tirades) continue their Week 5 outbursts, this one is over early. Take the Pack and 10.
Dog of the Week
Band Aids vs. Gerbils, Band Aids favored by a bunch: Again, do we have to watch the Gerbils? The Gerbs welcome Austin Ekeler back into his starting lineup. He could clone him and put him at every position and it would not help in this one. Even with Ekeler in there, the Band Aids are favored at every starting position. Only the defense and kicker are listed as “draws.” If Chuck can lose by less than 30 points, it will be a moral victory. At oh-for 2023, Chuck will take any victory he can get this season, moral, immoral or any other kind. Band Aids by 25.
