Jalen Hurts leads the resurgent Rangers in a Week 2 clash against the Tirades.
We know two things that are for certain heading into week two of the JSFL season: We will have at least one undefeated team, and at least one winless team. I am sure I don’t have to get into the dirty details, but an 0-2 start, while not a death sentence, is a kick in the nuts.
Two straight wins to open the year gives that owner a chance to breathe a sigh of relief.
The teams with chances to start 2-0 are the Tirades, Rangers, Spread Beaters, Band Aids and Jordan’s WTNE.
The Tirades and Rangers clash in our Game of the Week. We know one of those two will extend perfection. The teams facing the scorn of going 0-2 are the Invaiders, Gerbils, Packers, Who Dey and the Recliners.
The Invaiders and Gerbils meet in week two, and one of them is going down. The other nugget to nibble on as we await the Bills and Dolphins kicking off action Thursday is we only had one team top the century mark in points week one, the Tirades. The stat pinheads at ESPN think we will have two century toppers, but this week, the geeks think it will be the Rangers in a decisive win over the Tirades (and what could be a potential preview of the 2024 Super Bowl) and the Spread Beaters in a rout of the rookie.
Here's a look at the week two matchups.
Game of the Week
Rangers vs Tirades, Rangers favored by 9: The stars of the league come out to shine in this one as the two best quarterbacks take the field, along with four of the most productive running backs in week one. And, it will be a long week for both owners as Ron kicks off action Thursday with Josh Allen and the Bills and both owners will have players in the Monday Night game (John has Jalen Hurts at home to the Falcons; and Ron currently has TE Kyle Pitts slotted in his lineup). The stat pinheads love Hurts and both of John’s stud backs (Breece Hall at Tennessee and Kyren Williams at Arizona). John gets the advantage at flex with Mike Evans over Stefon Diggs, and at defense (Pittsburgh over the Commanders, but the Commanders do get the inept Giants). Ron gets the edge at both WR spots with Deebo Samuel and Calvin Ridley, and at kicker (Harrison Butker). Take the Rangers by 5.
The Close Ones?
Packers vs WTNE, Packers favored by 2: This line might move substantially before Sunday morning as three Packer starters are currently listed as questionable, including De’Von Achane, who takes the field tonight. The matchups appear to favor Jordan as his quarterback, Jayden Daniels, getting to surgically take apart the New York football Giants with his arm and his legs, and RB Saquon Barkley takes on Atlanta on Monday night. The stat wizards also like WTNE’s WR Rahsee Rice and TE Trey McBride. The Pack gets the advantage at RB2 Kenneth Walker III (tagged questionable) and WR Ja’Marr Chase. Achane is currently in Jeff’s flex position as I write this. Take the Pack by 5 (never bet against the Pack).
Recliners vs Band Aids, Recliners favored by 8: At least Vern knows Bob had no business winning last week, and it appears the talent gap in this matchup heavily favors the Recliners, as Chris gets the advantage at five starting positions (both RBs in Bijan Robinson and Joe Mixon, WR2 Marvin Harrison Jr., TE Sam LaPorta and the Jets defense). Bob gets the nod at QB (Lamar Jackson) and WR1 Amon-Ra St. Brown. It appears Bob will be taking bullets from too many directions to force Chris to have to sweat out Bijan winning it Monday night. Take the Recliners by 5.
Invaiders vs Gerbils, Invaiders favored by 3: This one appears to be another big-score candidate as both teams are projected for the mid-90s, with the Invaiders getting slight edges at five positions (with Jonathan Taylor, Ceedee Lamb, Brandon Aiyuk, Mark Andrews and Rhamondre Stevenson). Chuck gets the advantage at QB (his highness, Patrick Mahomes) and defense (yay, 49ers!). Take the Gerbils and 1. This is Vern we are talking about. He will find some way to screw this up and belly ache about it.
The Blowouts?
Recliners vs Band Aids, Recliners favored by 8: At least Vern knows Bob had no business winning last week, and it appears the talent gap in this matchup heavily favors the Recliners, as Chris gets the advantage at five starting positions (both RBs in Bijan Robinson and Joe Mixon, WR2 Marvin Harrison Jr., TE Sam LaPorta and the Jets defense). Bob gets the nod at QB (Lamar Jackson) and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. It appears Bob will be taking bullets from too many directions to force Chris to have to sweat out Bijan winning it Monday night. Take the Recliners by 5.
Spread Beaters vs Who Dey, Spread Beaters favored by 21: If Matty can keep this deficit to single digits, consider that a win. The Spread Beaters have too much talent at every position to give Who Dey a chance to breathe. The champion has the advantage at QB Kyler Murray, RB Derrick Henry, both WRs Tyreek Hill and Cooper Fucking Kupp, TE Travis Kelce, flex J.K. Dobbins and the Chargers defense. Take Spread Beaters and 15.
