Recliners, Band Aids extend their leads atop respective divisions as the race for final two playoff spots heats up
For about 30 minutes last Thursday, it looked the the Band Aids might lose their critical Week 10 battle with the Tirades. Ja'Marr Chase had exploded against the Ravens defense and was on his way to what is believed to be a WR record of 44 points, giving the Tirades a huge early advantage over Bob Garcia's Shitty Teams Division leading squad.
Band Aids QB Lamar Jackson had been held in check by the Bengals defense and had scored only 9.
But that all changed in the fourth quarter. Jackson responded with 22 fourth-quarter points, the Band Aids were back in the ballgame, and then Garcia rode his running backs to a dominating victory that all but sealed a division title. The Band Aids hold a three-game lead over the hard-luck Tirades and Who Dey.
Similarly, Chris Zimnoch's team all but wrapped up the Silent Division title with a not-as-impressive win over the Invaiders. The Recliners extended their lead to three games over the Rangers and four games over the rest of the division.
Here's a look back at the week 10 results from the most bitter of perspectives.
BAND AIDS 134, TIRADES 115: This one lived up to its Game of the Week billing, folks. What's a guy gotta do to get an f---ing win in this league, anyway? Score 115 points? Nope. The Tirades (4-6) would have beaten any other team this week, but not the f---ing Band Aids (7-3). Running backs were the reason. Bob got three TDs from his top pair as Chuba Hubbard scored 21 and James Conner added 17. WRs Terry McLaurin and Amon-Ra St. Brown added 23 more. The Tirades finally got Christian McCaffrey back, but neither he nor Aaron Jones nor David Montgomery were able to find the end zone, and that was the difference here. On the Bench: Only one change here would have helped the Band Aids ... Bucky Irving outscored Kareem Hunt 14-9. The Tirades had no help on the bench.
BEATERS 88, WTNE 76: Everyone else is in third place in the Silent Division now after the Beaters (5-5) knocked WTNE (5-5) down a notch. QB Kyler Murray led the way with 28, RB Derrick Henry and TE Travis Kelce both added 12. K Tyler Bass led Jordan Garcia's team with 13 in a losing effort, and if your kicker is high scorer, well... On the Bench: WTNE wins this if it had gone with the prognosticators and benched QB Jayden Daniels (9 points) for Joe Burrow (33).
RECLINERS 82, INVAIDERS 78: RBs again led the way as the Recliners (9-1) rode Bijan Robinson (25) and Joe Mixon (14) to the win. TE Sam LaPorta added 12. QB Brock Purdy (Go Niners!) led the Invaiders (5-5) with 23 and TE Mark Andrews added 12. On the Bench: Invaiders would have added 3 measly points with Jake Elloitt at K, but the Recliners could have added 16 if they'd gone with Rams K Josh McCarty (19) over Cairo Santos (3).
PACKERS 72, RANGERS 67: Break up the Pack (2-8). They've won two in a row. RB Tyrone Tracy and WR George Pickens (a Steeler! How ironic) each scored 15 to led Jeff to the win in the battle of the Lambert brothers. John got 30 from QB Jalen Hurts and 11 from TE George Kittle (who had a great TD catch) but the Rangers (6-4) got very little else in teh way of scoring. On the Bench: For a change, the Steelers defense (4) was outscored by the Bills who were sitting idle for John. Jeff could have gone with the Colts QBs (11), the Broncos D (5) and K Evan McPherson (4) over starters Aaron Rodgers (5), the Chiefs D (3) and K Austin Seibert (0).
WHO DEY 69, GERBILS 68: The closest game of the week was also the most boring and low scoring. EB James Cook (14) along with K Jake Bates (12) and the Vikings defense (13) were the only players in double figures for Matt McCumber's team (4-6). RBs Jamyr Gibbs (14) and Chase Brown (10) and WR AJ Brown (10) led the Gerbils. On the Bench: QB Pat Mahomes had 15 for the Gerbils on the pine, 10 better than starter Sam Darnold. Matt's bench scored 15 total and 13 of those were from kicker Ka'imi Fairburn.
