All of the NFL teams are playing this week. We have a pretty good idea of who is playing through injuries and when, if at all, the others might return from the injured list. Now, we just have ourselves some playoff potential matchups. On. To. Week. 8.
Everyone is looking at where Justin Jefferson might land as the trade deadline nears.
Topping the slate of action this week are the two of the best in each division, Bob Garcia’s Band Aids and Jordan Garcia’s WTNE. There are only three losses between these two current powerhouses.
Trade deadline looms Dec. 1
Just a friendly reminder so we don’t have a repeat of the Christian McCaffrey fiasco in 2024, the trade deadline is coming December 1 and three players (and teams) are directly impacted. The pending free agents (Justin Jefferson is the key trade chip and he is owned by John; Derrick Henry, owned by Matt; and Jonathan Taylor, owned by Blayze) must be traded by the deadline (midnight PST on Dec. 1) or they go back into the draft.
There was a fourth potential free agent (Nick Chubb), but he was dropped by Jordan after Chubb’s season-ending injury and has been scooped up by the Tirades. Start making your plans and trade offers accordingly if any of them entice you.
Game of the Week
Band Aids vs. WTNE, Band Aids favored by 10: As much as we hate to admit it, this is a likely matchup at some point in the postseason … that is unless Bob does a Bob or every star player for both teams are sidelined between now and Thanksgiving.
The Bob on this side of the Garcia faceoff is heavily favored at nearly every starting position. He gets the scoring edge with Patrick Mahomes, Raheem Mostert, Puka Nacua, Mark Andrews and Bijan Robinson. Even Bob’s defense (Baltimore) and kicker (Baltimore) are favored. Mostert and Kenneth Walker III both come into the matchup for Bob with “questionable” tags. Despite the concerns, Bob’s bench just looks too deep to stumble this week. The “questionable” tag for Jordan’s Christian McCaffrey is gone this week after a 20-point effort Monday night. Take the Band AIDS and the points.
The Best of the Rest
Rangers vs. Invaiders, Invaiders favored by 12:
The other game to watch is John Lambert’s Rangers, winners of four straight, coming in as an underdog against the Invaiders. The Invaiders carry a positional advantage at every position except the defense (Detroit gets the nod over Dallas). But, two Invaider starters (Saquon Barkley and Alvin Kamara) still carry “questionable” tags. The Rangers, still waiting for the return of keeper Jefferson, come in healthy. The Invaiders will find some way to lose when favored this much. Take the Rangers and 2.
Tirades vs. Spread Beaters, Beaters favored by 18; Like the game before this one, the Spread Beaters come in with positional edges, except for kicker and defense. Recent arrival Tua Tagovailoa will team with Tyreek Hill at home against the Patriots. If these two go off, this one is over. But, the Patriots always seem to have a plan of attack to take something away from their opponents. Hill and T.J. Hockenson both currently carry “questionable” tags and Tirade QB Brock Purdy is still in the concussion protocol. Take the Beaters and 8.
Dog of the Week
Packers vs. Recliners, Packers favored by 7:
Despite its “dog” status, this is the second-closest game on the slate this week. It’s just that no one wants to watch it. The Packers carry sway at QB (Josh Allen over Trevor Lawrence) and both WRs (Ja’Marr Chase and Mike Evans over Drake London and Zay Flowers). The only edge Chris has, at this writing, is at tight end (Travis Kelce) and defense (the N.Y. Giants). Never bet against the Pack. Take the Pack and 3.
Do We Have to Watch?
Gerbils vs. Blazing Saddles, Saddles favored by 5: If Chuck hopes to break that goose egg in the win column, this might be his best chance all year. Then again, he might lose by 25. ESPN, for some reason, is giving Saddle QB Dak Prescott the scoring edge over Jared Goff at home. And likewise, ESPN also seems to think Gerbil Austin Ekeler will come out of his scoring slumber to outpace Jonathan Taylor. And, Gerbils Jacobi Meyers and George Kittle are liked by ESPN more than Marquise Brown and Dalton Kincaid. We say bollocks to all four of those assumptions. This one looks and smells like a rout. Take the Saddles and 12.
