Spread Beaters, Invaiders, Recliners all improve to 2-1 atop Silent Division
Myles Garrett (4.5 sacks) and Cleveland's defense (9 sacks total) scored 16 points for the Pack
Did we enter a time machine? Is this 1999 all over again? Is this the heyday of Marshall Faulk running wild in Pack blue and white? Did we offend someone greatly, and they are exacting their revenge by making the Pack a juggernaut again?
Am I losing my mind? What cosmic offense have we done to deserve this? Unless you just woke up after 3 weeks of a drug-induced coma, you would not be out of line to be dumbstruck, in shock and awe by the following statement: The Pack are undefeated and alone atop the Shit Talker division.
There. I said it and a bolt of lightning did not rip out of the sky and turn me to ashes and a pile of salt. The Pack won again. They had some help from a team owner in La La Land (or allegedly on a flight to Utah who did not know he should bench Dalvin Cook), but the Pack posted the second-highest score of the week enroute to a 99-76 pasting of the formerly unbeaten Tirades.
The Tirades, despite a distraction in baseball (the Giants, at last glance, were still in first place and trying to send the Dodgers to purgatory), remain alone in second in the division with the only other winning record. The Saddles, bLAand Aids and Gerbils all sit in third (or last) at 1-2.
In the junior circuit, a three-way tie still exists among the Spread Beaters, Recliners and Invaiders (gasp!) at 2-1. The Rangers got their first win of the year by stopping the bLAnd Aids, and the defending champs are still seeking their first win of the young season.
The game of Week 4 will be those 3-0 Pack taking on the Silent’s Spread Beaters (2-1). The betting line will be up early today and the Pack is expected to be the early favorite. The line is expected to move quickly so place those wagers early before the big money moves in. In conference action, the Invaiders face the defending champ Pillow Biters and the bLAnd Aids take on the Tirades. The other two games are interleague battles between the Gerbils and Rangers and the Recliners face the Blazing Saddles.
Pack 99, Tirades 76: So, there is a good story that goes with this mess. Ron was flying to Utah when he realized he had not removed RB Dalvin Cook from his starting lineup. Half of the free world knew Dalvin was out Saturday afternoon, but some news apparently does not reach planes or Utah. It’s not like he had any help on the bench, but it feels good to give him crap for starting a guy who clearly was not going to play. The Pack didn’t need much but got all it needed in the 38 points by Josh Allen, 16 from the Cleveland defense, 15 from Aaron Jones and 13 from Chris Godwin. The scary part is the Pack nearly had enough on its bench to beat the Tirades (69, Mike Williams 26, 49ers QBs 21). The Tirades got 22 from Patrick Mahomes, 16 from D.K. Metcalf and 15 from Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
Invaiders 113, Blazing Saddles 69: So that is what happens when guys score touchdowns. Cooper Kupp led the way with 2 TDs and 21 points, DaVonte Adams added 19 and Kyler Murray 17. The Saddles countered with 14 from Najee Harris and 11 from Keenan Allen. Blaze’s bench nearly outscored his starters (James Robinson and Ja’Marr Chase 18 each and Mason Crosby 16).
Spread Beaters 71, Pillow Biters 64: The defending champ Pillow Biters suffered their third straight loss and had another tough week scoring. The Spread Beaters kept a share of first with 18 from Lamar Jackson, 16 from Justin Tucker (a game-winner from 66 yards) and 15 from Saquon Barkley. The bench outscored Matt’s starters this week (76-71, Kareem Hunt 21, Cowboys QBs 20 and 10 from Tyler Higbee). Derrick Henry managed 16 for the Consortium. D’Andre Swift added another 16 as did the Cleveland QBs.
Rangers 89, OC bLAnd Aids 84: Justin Herbert led the scoring for the Rangers with 30. Justin Jefferson added 17 and the Arizona defense scored 16 more. Bob’s defense led his scoring, which usually means trouble. Denver pitched a shutout and scored 19. Aaron Rogers added 18 and Alvin Kamara added 16 more. If CeeDee Lamb could have caught a cold while Dallas scored 41 Monday night, Garcia easily should have won. But all he managed was a whimpy 6 points and the Rangers were dancing in the street. Bob has to cringe as he sees the 56 points he left on the pine (Raiders QBs 21, Brandin Cooks 11 and Zach Ertz 11).
Recliners 85, Gerbils 83: Ezekiel Elliott rumbled for 23 big points Monday night and DeVonta Smith added just enough (2 points) to overtake the Gerbils and win this in an upset. Tom Brady scored 28 for the Recliners Sunday, and Travis Kelce 10 for the Recliners. The Carolina QBs led the Gerbs with 25 points and the New Orleans defense 18 and Chris Carson 14. Another Dallas WR, Amari Cooper, logged only 2 points Monday night to let this one slip away.
