Lamar has Band Aids flying high

Updated: Oct 29

Five TD performance on Monday night results in 35 points and leads Bob Garcia's team to division win over Who Dey

Lamar Jackson (8) has the Band Aids soaring after he tied his own Ravens record with five touchdown passes on Monday.

Lamar Jackson tied his own team record with five TD passes on Monday Night Football, leading the Band Aids to their fourth consecutive victory, a blowout win over Matt McCumber's Who Dey.

But two other breakout performances by RBs Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry, who scored 24 and 23, respectively, did not result in wins for their teams.

Barkley's big effort, and another 24 points from the Washington QBs (more about that later) wasn't enough for Jordan Garcia and WTNE, which lost to the Tirades. Henry ran roughshod and QB Kyler Murray added 19 more but the Spread Beaters still came up short against the Silent Division co-leading Rangers.

The Invaiders, on the other hand, were led by TE Mark Andrews, and we all know that if your TE is your leading scorer, that's not good. Vern Ahrendes saw his team fall to the other Silent Division leader, the Recliners.

And last but certainly not least, the resurgent Gerbils blew out the winless Packers, their third win in their last four games, behind a big day from RB Jamyr Gibbs. And so it goes in the up-and-down JSFL in Week 7.

The Shitty Teams Division appears to be the one with the playoff race that remains to be decided. The Band Aids, who lead the league in scoring after seven weeks, are one game up on the preseason favorite Tirades (4-3) and have a two-game lead over the Gerbils (3-4), both of whom kept pace with wins last weekend. Over in the Silent Division, it's more of the same as the Rangers and Recliners both improved to 6-1 and they have a three-game lead over the rest of the division, who are in a logjam at 3-4.

BAND AIDS 129, WHO DEY 68: For the second time in three weeks, the Band Aids (5-2) blew up a scoreboard en route to a lopsided win (they scored 144 two weeks ago. Yikes!). Bob is not doing this with smoke and mirrors, either. He's doing it with free agent acquisitions after surviving a draft where he'd traded away four draft picks (Yikes!). We noted two weeks ago that his pickup of RB Kareem Hunt was critical. Well, he scored another 19 last week and is playing like he's the free agent pickup MVP. The "regular" MVP? The aforementioned QB Lamar Jackson, whose 35 points led the league last weekend. Bob's other RBs, Chuba Hubbard and James Conner, added 26 more and keeper WR Amon-Ra St. Brown had 17. QB Jordan Love's 16 points (he was one of three that reached double figures for Matty) led Who Dey (2-5), who had WR Justin Jefferson score 14 and TE David Njoku 13. On the Bench: Not much help for Matty here (QB Geno Smith would have gained one point) and, no surprise, Bob started his best possible lineup.

Deebo Samuel, diagnosed with pneumonia after the game, gets some oxygen on the sideline Sunday.

GERBILS 123, PACKERS 88: Chuck Nelson's team (3-4) came so close to having his whole lineup score in double figures last weekend. The lollygaggers? TE Brock Bowers only had 9 and his starting defense, the football Giants, scored only 1. In addition to RB Gibbs and his 27, his kicker, Cameron Dicker, was a stickler (for successful kicks, anyway) with 21 points. RB Josh Jacobs had 14 and the Gerbils went with a three-receiver set that paid off handsomely: Drake London, Tee Higgins and AJ Brown combined for 40. For Jeff Lambert and the Packers (0-7), the 2024 season continued to be a struggle. recent trade acquisition WR Deebo Samuel suited up and played (a little) despite pneumonia, but did not score. RB Kenneth Walker III and the Broncos defense each had 20 for the Pack. On the Bench: WR George Pickens, who would have started for Samuel had his condition been made available beforehand, scored 17. The Gerbils almost started their best possible lineup, save the 49ers defense, which outscored the starting Giants 2-1.

RANGERS 111, SPREAD BEATERS 86: Another week, another win for John Lambert and the Rangers (6-1) who had little trouble dispensing with the defending two-time champion Beaters (3-4). QB Jalen Hurts had 22 ponts and RBs Breece Hall and Kyren Williams each had 19 in the win. As mentioned earlier, Henry had 23 points and QB Murray 19 in a losing effort for Matt Pringle's team. The only bad news for John was in the injury department as his Flex standout Mike Evans (8) re-aggravated a hamstring injury. It was announced this afternoon that Evans would be out through the Bucs Week 11 bye. Likewise, Pringle lost the Bucs other top receiver, Chris Godwin (6), to a season-ending ankle injury. On the Bench: John could have run up the score if he'd started RB Tank Bigsby (23) at Flex instead of WR Mike Evans (8), but since Evans suffered the hamstring injury on Monday night, perhaps that will be the lineup change for the Rangers in Week 8. Kicker Chris Boswell outscored starter Justin Tucker (13) by one, and since we'd been badgering John to start the Steelers defense the first few weeks of the season, we cannot chide him for starting Pittsburgh's defense (8) over the Bills (11). Pringle's only help could have come with QB Russell Wilson, who scored 24 in his first start of the season, over Murray's 19.

Joe Mixon (23) was one of three Recliners RBs to score 20 or more points.

RECLINERS 96, INVAIDERS 53: As Vern would say, "Nothing to see here. Move along." That's because his Invaiders (3-4) were run over by a dump truck. The three-RB attack of the Recliners were that truck as Joe Mixon (23), Javonte Williams (22) and Bijan Robinson (20) combined to score 78.1% of the team's total points. Chris Zimnoch's co-division leading Recliners (6-1)also got 16 from the Commanders defense, Vern got 16 from TE Andrews, RB Najee Harris and QB Brock Purdy, who rushed for two TDs but has the worst QB rating game of his career (35.2). And to make bad things worse, the Invaiders saw yet another player go down with an injury as WR Brandon Aiyuk (2) was lost for the season with a torn ACL. If you are scoring at home, that means the Invaiders are without RB Jonathan Taylor (might be back this week), RB Jonathan Brooks and WR JuJu Smith-Schuster. He did get WR Malik Naybers back, who got through concussion protocol after two weeks on the sideline and scored 4. On the Bench: Nothing to see here, either. The Recliners bench scored 12. The Invaiders bench had only 5, all from backup TE Pat Freiermuth. Yikes.

QB Jayden Daniels, third in the JSFL in scoring for WTNE, suffered a rib injury and is questionable for this weekend.

TIRADES 92, WTNE 75: As mentioned earlier, RB Barkley and Commanders QB tandem of Jayden Daniels (injured ribs Sunday) and backup Marcus Mariota each scored 24 but Jordan did not get much else. The Tirades were led by QB Baker Mayfield, who scored 26 in his second consecutive start since joining the team in Week 6, but he's going to be in a much-less target rich environment going forward with Bucs WRs Evans (hamstring, week to week) and Godwin are both out. Welcome back to the starting lineup, Josh Allen. RB Aaron Jones added 17 and free agent pickup Cincy defense scored 16. On the Bench: Had Brian Thomas Jr. (16) been in the starting lineup instead of Jayden Reed (1) as he should have been, the Tirades would have hit triple digits. Jordan might have won if he'd started Rachaad White (23) over Alvin Kamara (2), but that's a stretch that no sane person would have done.
