Chuck Nelson's winless streak ends at eight as his team scores in triple-digits for the first time this season; Saddles and Band Aids also win
Joe Burrow wants you to know he's played two consecutive great games, and that he thinks two more wins will get the Gerbils past the Tirades and out of the cellar in the ST division.
Chuck Nelson may have had his sights on the first pick in next year's draft, but his team has other ideas. A healthy Joe Burrow led the Gerbils to a huge upset win over Silent Division leader WTNE, and that brings the hapless Tirades one game closer to last place in the ST Division. That makes it back-to-back big games for Burrow (he shredded the 49ers defense a week earlier) and puts the league on notice that the Gerbils are a team to be reckoned with in the second half of the season. Other ST teams with big wins were the Saddles, who ripped through the Packers, and the Band Aids, who snuck past the Spread Beaters.
Over in the Silent Division, a logjam is forming. The Rangers knocked off the Recliners to move into a first-place tie and the Invaiders handled those hapless Tirades to move into sole possession of second place, a game back. Who needs Tua? Vern asks. Well, he might if he makes the playoffs, but hey... he'll get a great defense with that 8th-rounder he picked up in that trade with the Beaters.
SWAMI UPDATE: He missed on all three upsets and had a 2-3 week. He did get his own team's victory correct, and nailed the Rangers win. He's now 25-20 on the season, which is still a better winning percentage than his own team has.
SADDLES 123, PACKERS 97: The hot-and-cold running Saddles got piping hot again and remain a game back of the lead in the ST division with the win over Jeff Lambert's Packers, who had a four-game winning streak snapped in the process. Blayze Hanson's Saddles ride and die with QB Dak Prescott because their only option at the position is (yikes!) the Arizona QBs. Prescott came through with 27 (against the Eagles) and came a toenail away from a two-point conversion and a missed tackle away from a third TD pass. The Raiders defense and WR Amari Cooper added 19 each. The Packers got 24 from QB Josh Allen and 23 more from the Cleveland defense, which tossed it's first shutout in nearly two decades.
GERBILS 101, WTNE 63: The Gerbils snapped an eight-game losing streak and posted their first win of the year. Burrow scored 21 and Austin Ekeler has 18 on Monday night against the Jets to lead the Gerbils to the win. And talk about hot and cold -- does it get any more inconsistent than Jordan Garcia's WTNE? If Jordan had not put a running back for the NFL's worst rushing team in his starting lineup (Rashaad White of the Bucs, who scored a career-high 23), WNTE would have set a season-record low of 40 points. This team scored 125 points the week before. WTF?
INVAIDERS 88, TIRADES 71: Move along, nothing to see here. The Invaiders were heavily favored to win this and managed not to choke (for a change). QB Lamar Jackson led the way with 19 and WRs Cee Dee Lamb and Stefon Diggs each had 18. The Tirades got 18 from Rhamondre Stevenson and another 17 from free agent pickup Gus Edwards, who has 64 points in his last three games. And yes, gentlemen, he's available for a draft pick. As is anyone else on the Tirades roster.
RANGERS 79, RECLINERS 72: John Lambert's team is for real, folks, and moved into a tie for first place with this win. QB Jalen Hurts had 25, RB Josh Jacobs scored 21 and the rest didn't matter much. The only good news for the Recliners were the 41 points scored by free agent QB pickup C.J. Stroud.
BAND AIDS 73, BEATERS 72: Bob Garcia got just enough from QB Patrick Mahomes (16) to survive this battle with Matt Pringle and remain atop the ST division standings at 7-2. he could have used the 23 points WR Tank Dell scored while on the bench, though, since his starters (Puka Nacua and Tyler Lockett) combined for a whopping 6 points. Pringle's disappointment points directly at the Dolphins offense: Tyreek Hill, predicted to score 15, had only 5 against the Chiefs and had it not been for his fumble in the waning moments of the first half, the Beaters might have won this.
