Yes, we can already hear Vern whining that his Invaiders are really atop the Silent Division, but we all know better than that, don't we?
Saquon Barkley leads the Beaters in an effort to "Un-Pack" the ST division leader.
We're plunging into Week 4 of the JSFL season and the surprising Packers look to continue their unbeaten streak in a second-straight clash of the titans. This week Jeff Lambert squares off against Matt Pringle and his Spread Beaters, who have won their last two. In other games, the Tirades aim to keep pace in the ST division against the Band Aids, the Gerbils battle the Rangers, the Recliners and Saddles are the only game with much scoring from Thursday night (Saddles free agent pickup James Robinson scored 19 of his team's early 26-point effort -- take that Vern, for giving up on him after one week -- and Joe Mixon is returning to earth, scoring 12 for the Recliners), and the winless defending champ Pillow Biters have an early 2-0 lead against the Invaiders in the who-gives-a-shit game of the week.
Packers (-2) vs Beaters: I think it's time that the Pack has a little air taken out of their tires, and Pringle's just the guy to do it (since I was apparently not up to the task last week). What has to happen: Lamar Jackson has to go off. We're talking at least one backflip, maybe two. Big days from RBs Barkley and Nick Chubb. Anything and everything they can get from the rest of the lineup, including the chapshoot that is starting the Indy defense. Well, that's better than the alternative, which is watching Tom Brady light up the Patriots. Or maybe there's a defense on the free agent list? Like the Bengals, who are playing Jacksonville? Just sayin'. The Packers are hoping for the usual strong efforts from QB Josh Allen and RBs Aaron Jones and David Montgomery. There were multiple Brandon Aiyuk sightings in Santa Clara last week against Green Bay, so that could mean less work for Deebo Samuel... we'll see. Beaters by 2.
Recliners (-8) vs. Saddles: Blayze Hanson was thrilled with the effort from Robinson on Thursday (19) but might be wishing he'd drafted the other Bengals WR (free agent Tyler Boyd, who scored 11) instead of the guy he picked (Ja'Marr Chase, who scored 7). But he still has an early 26-12 lead against one of the other 2-1 teams atop the Silent Division, Chris Zimnoch's Recliners. But don't expect this lead to much into the late game on Sunday, when the aforementioned Brady starts shredding the New England defense for 35 points. And if this is the week that Ezekiel Elliott shows up to play, well, that will be that no matter what Najee Harris and Keenan Allen manage to do. It's not the week to try to beat the Recliners, IMHO. Recliners by 10.
Tirades (-7) vs Band Aids: Even if the Tirades started their bench, they'd have a good shot at winning this one. As it is, Pat Mahomes is due for a huge game. If Dalvin Cook is sidelined again, the team is ready this week and has a couple options, including Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Chuba Hubbard, who's filling in for injured Christian McCaffrey in Carolina, looks to get a start this week along with WRs DJ Moore and Terry McLaurin, who have been riding the bench of late. Free agent defense pickup Tennessee also gets the start. The Band Aids continue to let it ride with Aaron Rodgers, who looks to be back on track; RBs Alvin Kamara and Myles Gaskin; and WRs CeeDee Lamb and (maybe) Tyler Lockett. Lockett twisted his knee last week and is questionable; same goes for Band Aids RB Josh Jacobs, whose ankle has kept him sidelined since Week One. Tirades by 6.
Rangers (-16) vs. Gerbils: If I wasn't saving Vern's game for the "who cares" matchup, just out of spite, I'd have picked this one. The Gerbils have no chance to win this, even though the Rangers are starting Melvin Gordon. Again, there's no chance. Chuck Nelson's Gerbils are so thin at WR that they have only two rostered guys who are projected to score anything. Two others are projected for big fat zeros. And, helpful hint here, if you want a replacement WR, Chuck, please scroll back up and look for the first mention of the phrase "free agent." John Lambert, meanwhile, has no such problems and is projected to throw 84 points up there this weekend. Rangers by 12.
Invaiders (-12) vs. Pillow Biters: The JSFL Today reporting staff has had a field day giving Matt Huey and his Consortium a load of crap for drafting Baker Mayfield. Well, I think Matt flips the script this weekend and Mayfield goes berserk against the Vikings. Kyler Murray struggles against the Rams defense. And the Pillows pull off the upset of the young season. They're, I've said it. Invaiders will go down. Pillows by 8.
