Commish turns 60; half the league shows up

Five JSFL owners help celebrate as Jeff Lambert celebrates the big Six-Zero at Monarch's rooftop bar in Del Mar

Five JSFL owners were on hand to help celebrate commissioner Jeff Lambert's 60th birthday on Saturday. From left: Bob Garcia (Band Aids), Chris Zimnoch (Recliners), the birthday boy (Packers), Ron Hender (Tirades), Matt Pringle (Spread Beaters) and John Lambert (Rangers).

From a victory on the track at Del Mar in the afternoon to a sunset soiree at an outdoor rooftop bar in the evening, it was a memorable 60th birthday party for JSFL commissioner Jeff Lambert.

Five other members of the league also attended the event, which included a trip to attend the races at the Del Mar track. Lambert, who had four horses running on the day -- two of those in the 8th race -- also got a trip to the winner's circle when Father Delay came from next-to-last to win it at the wire.

It's the second time in recent years that a league gathering has also resulted in a win at the track: Saddle Bar did it on draft day in 2019.

The celebration was made complete with a party at the rooftop bar at Monarch, where the birthday boy's friends gathered for food, drinks, several renditions of "Happy Birthday" and three variations of cake.

JSFL attendees voted 6-0 to fine all owners who did not attend two shots before the 2024 draft begins.
